«East-West» gas pipeline

28 January 2016

The recent days of concluded 2015 distinctly demonstrated successful and consecutive steps of Turkmenistan on diversification of the directions of export deliveries of hydrocarbon resources. The construction of TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline has launched and East-West gas transportation system that brings together all largest reservoirs of natural gas in the country was established.

The East-West gas pipeline creates for Turkmenistan qualitatively new possibilities of strengthening of deliveries in the existing export directions and developments new, this fact was especially noted by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the speech at opening of the new gas transportation system.

In his speech, the President of Turkmenistan made note of all benefits of partnership that opening as a result of the newly established gas artery and invited to mutually beneficial cooperation of all possible consumers of the Turkmen gas. It has been once again demonstrated that diversification of deliveries is a priority of energy strategy of Turkmenistan.

There are a new opportunities for implementation of the Trans-Caspian pipeline into Northern direction through the “East-West” pipeline, as the resource base for this perspective gas artery is considerably extended.

This is as relevant as for the perspective gas pipeline to the Western - the European direction. As outlined by the national leader, Turkmenistan is technically ready to deliveries to Europe and conducts constructive talks with the partners on this issue. Since, a pathway of natural gas from the largest fields of the country to the coast of the Caspian Sea is open.

The new gas pipeline 730 kilometres in length, it stretches from Shatlyk compressor station in the Mary region until the Belek station in Balkan region. The new gas artery is capable to transport annually 30 billion cubic meters of gas. So large project of gas transmission infrastructure as the East-West pipeline is built by exclusively by own expenses, domestic constructers.

Thus, for the time of the history of independent development the national energy industry considerably strengthened its potential, has a set of all necessary technologies and qualified professionals for the implementation of the most large-scale projects. It illustrates once again the fact that mainly the State Concern “Turkmengaz” has been recognized as a leader of the Consortium building "TAPI".
